    Assalamu Alaikum,

Excellent start to discussing youth issues

‘3 types of youth’… exactly what i have been saying for years! The problem is that with the youth who are into EVERYTHING, either people know that they are indulging in all sorts of haraam, but don’t know what to do or, there is a denial within the Muslim community that these problems DON’T exist.

There is no concerted effort to help with the massive issues that we are facing as a community.

Moreover, the ‘Ambassadors’ of Islam mentioned in the video, may be very sincere in wanting to do something, but very few have the knowledge and skills-set to respond with people’s social issues.

As an example, again form the video, some of the youth KNOW that certain acts lead to the hell fire, but are ADDICTED, so need MEDICAL HELP. This of course requires that we know of services and sign-post people, or we at least have the basic understanding/skills to help such individuals.

‘They are a part of this Ummah’ ‘we have to find a way of pulling them in’….’I can’t give you the answers, you have to discuss them in your circles’…..again, discussions may not lead you to do to anything.

The example given is so true about the guy who went to the Masjid drunk. I’ll share a story. Once, a young man went to the local Imam and said ‘I am an alcoholic’, the Imam replied ‘It is haraam’, so the young man replied ‘I know it is haraam, but I came here to get help from you’.

When I train people on how to engage and work with Muslim youth, I give them the story of `Abd Allah, who used to be an alcoholic, but love Allah and the Messenger (saw).

I would suggest that Muslim youth, generally speaking, know what is halal and haram…. they need our help and guidance.
